A man was shot by an ICE agent in New York during an arrest, according to officials. The incident occurred in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx around 4 p.M. The victim was in a car with a five-year-old child.
The New York Police Department confirmed the shooting happened during an altercation with federal agents. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated the operation was part of immigration enforcement. The man survived and is receiving medical treatment.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed concern over the incident. Mamdani called for the removal of ICE agents from the city and urged President Donald Trump to take action. He also demanded an investigation into the shooting.
This is the second time this year an ICE agent has shot a person in New York. Previous incidents have led to calls for reform and increased scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement.
Mamdani has previously criticized ICE for its tactics and has called for its abolition. The current incident has intensified public and political pressure on the agency.
The victim’s condition remains stable, but the incident has sparked renewed debate over the role and methods of immigration enforcement in New York.
