A shipwreck from 1881 was discovered near Illawarra beach after shifting sands exposed its remains. The vessel, believed to have been wrecked due to the captain’s intoxication, was found just metres from the shoreline.

The wreck was identified as a 19th-century vessel that ran aground under mysterious circumstances. Local historians suggest the captain was intoxicated at the time, leading to the accident. The ship’s remains are now partially visible on the beach, with wooden planks and rusted metal parts scattered along the sand.

This discovery comes after years of coastal erosion in the area, which has gradually revealed the ship’s location. Experts believe the wreck could provide valuable insights into maritime history and early 19th-century navigation practices. The site is now being monitored by local authorities to ensure its preservation.
