The FBI has officially attributed the largest cryptocurrency heist in history to North Korean hackers, citing the theft of $6.3 billion from Binance. The attack occurred within minutes, marking a unprecedented breach in the crypto industry. According to the FBI, the hackers, identified as part of a group known as TraderTraitor, executed the theft with precision.
Binance has stated it has covered 90% of the stolen funds, ensuring minimal impact on its users. The company has pledged full compensation for the remaining 10%, while also working with authorities to trace the stolen assets. The FBI has warned cryptocurrency exchanges to block transactions involving the stolen funds as they are converted into other currencies.
This is not the first time North Korea has been linked to cyberattacks on financial institutions. Previous incidents have seen the country accused of targeting banks and cryptocurrency platforms. The current breach is believed to be part of a broader strategy by North Korean hackers to exploit global financial systems. The FBI has called for increased security measures and international cooperation to prevent such attacks in the future.
