A FlyDubai co-pilot allegedly attempted to seize control of a plane en route to Israel, leading to a violent confrontation with the pilot. The incident occurred during a flight from the United Arab Emirates to Tel Aviv. According to reports, the co-pilot stabbed the pilot in the cockpit, prompting the pilot to open the cockpit door to escape. The plane was forced to divert to Saudi Arabia due to the emergency.
Israeli authorities are expected to question the co-pilot, who is suspected of attempting to hijack the aircraft. The pilot, an Indian national, described the attack in detail, emphasizing the danger posed by the co-pilot’s actions. The flight, which carried 174 passengers, was diverted to Saudi Arabia for medical assistance. The incident has raised concerns about aviation security, particularly regarding the vetting of airline personnel.
This is not the first time FlyDubai has faced scrutiny over safety protocols. Earlier reports indicated that the co-pilot had been barred from flying by Oman due to concerns about extremist ties. The airline operates under UAE aviation standards, which are considered internationally compliant. However, the incident highlights potential gaps in background checks and cockpit security.
The Israeli government has announced plans to resume repatriation flights for passengers stranded in the UAE. The attack has intensified calls for stricter security measures in the aviation industry, especially in the Middle East. The case remains under investigation, with no official charges yet filed against the co-pilot.
